MediSave
MediSave is a national medical savings scheme that helps individuals set aside part of their income to pay for their personal or approved dependents’ hospitalisation, day surgery and certain outpatient expenses, as well as their healthcare needs in old age.
MediShield Life
MediShield Life is a basic health insurance plan that protects all Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents against large hospital bills for life, regardless of age or health condition.
MediShield Life covers your pre-existing conditions. For some serious pre-existing conditions, you will be required to pay an Additional Premium of 30% for 10 years in addition to the standard MediShield Life premiums.
Integrated Shield Plan (IP)
An Integrated Shield Plan (IP) provides coverage on top of your MediShield Life.
There are currently about seven health insurance providers with Integrated Shield plans. Different types of IPs provide different coverage. Some cover you for a higher-type ward (A/B1) in a public hospital, while others cover admission into a private hospital.
An IP comprises two parts:
- MediShield Life, which you're already covered for
- An additional private insurance coverage component offered by a private insurer
Personal Accident Insurance
A personal accident plan protects you from medical bills and loss of income that arise from an accident. Accidents may cause injuries that result in short or long-term disabilities and treatment. In extreme cases, accidents cause permanent disability or death.
Critical Illness Insurance
Critical illness insurance is a type of insurance that provides you with a lump sum of cash payment in the event you are diagnosed with a critical illness or undergo a type of surgery listed in the policy. Critical illness insurance can be purchased on its own or can come as a rider or packed in your life insurance policy (see section on Insurance Policies).
CareShield Life
CareShield Life is a long-term care insurance which provides a universal coverage scheme for all Singaporeans and Permanent Residents born in 1980 and later.
The plan offers a monthly payout in the event of severe disability, providing basic financial support for long-term care costs.
The premiums for CareShield are fully payable by Medisave, with premiums payable until age 67, while the coverage and benefits payouts are for a lifetime.
CHAS
The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) enables all Singapore Citizens, including Merdeka Generation (MG) and Pioneer Generation (PG) cardholders, to receive subsidies for medical and/or dental care at participating General Practitioner (GP) and dental clinics.
All Singapore Citizens are eligible for CHAS. The CHAS benefits will be tiered according to household monthly income per person or the Annual Value (AV) of the home, as indicated in the table below:

Healthier SG
Healthier SG was launched in 2022 to help all Singaporeans take steps towards better health. The government encourages all Singaporeans to enrol on Healthier SG in order to have access to a trusted family clinic, a personalised health plan, and other community programmes.
